The mood

Pale slate blue gives this timer the stillness of daylight beside a window. Deep navy holds the active count, icy white lifts the chosen duration, and a neutral blue-gray keeps earlier sessions visible without leaving the tonal family.

How to use it

Window Slate carries the duration list, page labels, and navigation in Midnight Ink. Current Navy becomes the large timer card with Ice Mark for the count and the Pause or Resume label. Give the chosen duration an Ice Mark tile with midnight text and a midnight frame, plus a written “Selected” state. Set session-history rows on History Blue with midnight text and a navy frame. The surface split is 44% slate canvas, 40% navy timer, and 16% icy selection; text and the narrow history treatment sit outside that split.

What to watch

Midnight Ink reaches about 7.62:1 on Window Slate, 15.42:1 on Ice Mark, and 4.87:1 on History Blue. It fails on Current Navy at about 1.50:1, where Ice Mark reads at about 10.30:1. Ice against slate is only 2.02:1, so its midnight frame passes at 15.42:1 inside and 7.62:1 outside. History Blue against slate is only 1.57:1; its navy frame passes at 3.25:1 and 5.09:1. Keep the timer state, selected duration, controls, and history labels written out.

A considered balance

Make room for
the right colors.

Use Window Slate with Midnight Ink for duration choices and navigation. Place the current timer on Current Navy with Ice Mark text. Use framed Ice Mark tiles for labeled selected durations, and framed History Blue rows with midnight text for session history. Write Pause, Resume, and current state explicitly.

Start with a generous background, introduce your primary color, then use the highlight sparingly. The ratios are a guide for large surfaces, not a fixed recipe.

Background · Primary · Highlight. Use text and accent colors where their roles call for them.

Text on background
7.62:1 #111F2D on #9DB2C2 · AAA normal text
Text on primary
1.50:1 #111F2D on #183D62 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (1.50:1). This example uses Ice Mark (#F1F7F8) from the same palette instead of #111F2D on #183D62, improving contrast to 10.30:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Text on highlight
15.42:1 #111F2D on #F1F7F8 · AAA normal text
Text on accent
4.87:1 #111F2D on #758E9E · AA normal text

Contrast is calculated for these specific pairs. Large text means at least 24 px regular or about 18.7 px bold. Check every pairing in your final design.

COLOR NOTE

Do not use Midnight Ink text on Current Navy; the pair measures about 1.50:1. Use Ice Mark there at about 10.30:1. Frame icy duration tiles with midnight and history rows with navy because neither light surface separates from Window Slate on its own.

Text/background contrast: 7.62:1. This is one measured pair, not a guarantee for the whole palette. Check every actual text/background pairing against WCAG AA. Prefer readable combinations from the original colors, keep visible keyboard focus, and never communicate state through color alone. If no original pairing meets the requirement, propose a separately labeled derived color with its original HEX, proposed HEX, purpose and measured contrast. Never overwrite the source palette.

This guide preserves the original HEX values. Review the output before using it.
