The mood

A folded tram map rests on a rain-damp station bench, its pale green paper reflecting the glass shelter above. Grass-green route bands cross charcoal ticket blocks, while a violet marker identifies the next transfer.

Platform Ink keeps the route readable, Rain Map opens the page, Tram Grass groups the stops, Ticket Charcoal anchors fare choices, and Transfer Violet separates connecting lines.

How to use it

Use Rain Map for the route-planning canvas and Platform Ink for stop names, times, navigation, and fare details. Tram Grass can hold route sections and stop lists. Use Ticket Charcoal for ticket-option controls with Rain Map text, and Transfer Violet for interchange markers, selected connections, or line symbols.

Begin with 54% Rain Map, 28% Tram Grass, and 18% Ticket Charcoal across the interface. Add violet only where routes connect. Use line numbers, patterns, icons, and text alongside color to distinguish every route and transfer.

What to watch

Platform Ink reaches about 14.91:1 on Rain Map and 5.35:1 on Tram Grass. It measures only about 1.47:1 on Ticket Charcoal and 2.90:1 on Transfer Violet. Reverse to Rain Map text on those darker colors: the pairing reaches about 10.18:1 on charcoal and 5.15:1 on violet.

Keep violet tied to transfers rather than using it for every selected item. Maintain clear space around the folded-map route bands, and avoid placing wet-glass effects behind small stop names or fare details.

A considered balance

Make room for
the right colors.

Use Rain Map for the planning canvas and Platform Ink for readable route content. Apply Tram Grass to route sections and stop lists, Ticket Charcoal to ticket choices, and Transfer Violet to interchange markers and selected connections. Reverse to Rain Map text on charcoal and violet.

Start with a generous background, introduce your primary color, then use the highlight sparingly. The ratios are a guide for large surfaces, not a fixed recipe.

Background · Primary · Highlight. Use text and accent colors where their roles call for them.

Text on background
14.91:1 #171B19 on #E3F1E7 · AAA normal text
Text on primary
5.35:1 #171B19 on #6E9A62 · AA normal text
Text on highlight
1.47:1 #171B19 on #313936 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (1.47:1). This example uses Rain Map (#E3F1E7) from the same palette instead of #171B19 on #313936, improving contrast to 10.18:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Text on accent
2.90:1 #171B19 on #705A86 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (2.90:1). This example uses Rain Map (#E3F1E7) from the same palette instead of #171B19 on #705A86, improving contrast to 5.15:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Contrast is calculated for these specific pairs. Large text means at least 24 px regular or about 18.7 px bold. Check every pairing in your final design.

Text/background contrast: 14.91:1. This is one measured pair, not a guarantee for the whole palette. Check every actual text/background pairing against WCAG AA. Prefer readable combinations from the original colors, keep visible keyboard focus, and never communicate state through color alone. If no original pairing meets the requirement, propose a separately labeled derived color with its original HEX, proposed HEX, purpose and measured contrast. Never overwrite the source palette.

This guide preserves the original HEX values. Review the output before using it.
