Kites Unfold toward the Open Field

Test in Color Lab

Five colors, endless possibilities. Select a color to copy its HEX.

A playful neighborhood workshop palette with a violet field, pale yellow kite paper, dark cyan time markers, light neutral string, and deep brown-yellow type.

The feeling

Folded yellow kite sheets, cyan time cards, and pale string on an open violet field

Explore this palette ↓

The mood

Folded kite sheets spread across a violet table before the group heads outside. Paper Sun makes each material choice easy to spot, Spool White traces string and small diagrams, and Field Clock places the workshop times in a compact dark cyan block. Fold Mark keeps every label grounded in a warm, ink-like brown.

The combination feels playful through cut shapes and clear color roles. It leaves enough structure for visitors to compare materials, choose a time, and revise an attendance selection.

How to use it

Use Flying Violet for the page field and Fold Mark for headings, descriptions, attendance controls, and links. Build material cards in Paper Sun, use Field Clock for workshop-time chips and the selected time, and reserve Spool White for string diagrams, card interiors, and small open-space accents.

Start with a 56/30/14 surface balance across Flying Violet, Paper Sun, and Field Clock. Keep Spool White outside that ratio as a supporting detail. Pair every color-coded material with its written name, show the selected workshop time with a checkmark, and keep the attendance choice editable from the confirmation area.

What to watch

Fold Mark measures 5.67:1 on Flying Violet, 10.96:1 on Paper Sun, and 12.34:1 on Spool White, passing the 4.5:1 normal-text threshold. On Field Clock it measures only 1.87:1 and fails both 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Use Paper Sun on Field Clock at 5.86:1, or Spool White at 6.60:1.

Paper Sun against Flying Violet measures 1.93:1, and Spool White against Flying Violet measures 2.18:1. Both fall below the 3:1 non-text threshold when a card boundary carries meaning, so add a Fold Mark outline to every interactive card; spacing and cut shapes can provide extra grouping. Field Clock against Flying Violet reaches 3.03:1, but its selected state should still include a checkmark or label.

A considered balance

Make room for
the right colors.

Use Flying Violet for the event page, Fold Mark for core copy and controls, Paper Sun for material cards, Field Clock for workshop times, and Spool White for string diagrams and open card details. Label every material and time, mark the current choice with a check, and keep attendance editable from the confirmation area.

Start with a generous background, introduce your primary color, then use the highlight sparingly. The ratios are a guide for large surfaces, not a fixed recipe.

Background · Primary · Highlight. Use text and accent colors where their roles call for them.

Text on background
5.67:1 #332808 on #B795CF · AA normal text
Text on primary
10.96:1 #332808 on #F3DFA0 · AAA normal text
Text on highlight
1.87:1 #332808 on #155B63 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (1.87:1). This example uses Spool White (#ECEDEA) from the same palette instead of #332808 on #155B63, improving contrast to 6.60:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Text on accent
12.34:1 #332808 on #ECEDEA · AAA normal text

Contrast is calculated for these specific pairs. Large text means at least 24 px regular or about 18.7 px bold. Check every pairing in your final design.

Text/background contrast: 5.67:1. This is one measured pair, not a guarantee for the whole palette. Check every actual text/background pairing against WCAG AA. Prefer readable combinations from the original colors, keep visible keyboard focus, and never communicate state through color alone. If no original pairing meets the requirement, propose a separately labeled derived color with its original HEX, proposed HEX, purpose and measured contrast. Never overwrite the source palette.

This guide preserves the original HEX values. Review the output before using it.
