The mood

This directory feels like a shaded neighborhood walk with a book under one arm. Muted green connects the locations, steel blue gives each reading room a steady address, and ivory and raspberry make the useful details easy to return to.

How to use it

Reading Green carries the directory heading, filters, map labels, and location list in Bookbinding Brown. Steel Room holds the standard venue cards with Page Ivory names and details. Show opening-time labels as ivory tags with brown text and a brown frame. When someone chooses a location, replace its blue card with a separate Raspberry Notice card labeled “Selected”; use the same raspberry surface for event details, with ivory text. Allocate 47% to the green directory, 35% to venue cards, and 18% to ivory labels and reading space. Raspberry stays limited to selection and event notes.

What to watch

Bookbinding Brown reaches about 6.27:1 on Reading Green and 13.73:1 on Page Ivory, but only 1.90:1 on Steel Room and 1.79:1 on Raspberry Notice. Page Ivory works on those darker cards at about 7.24:1 and 7.69:1. Steel blue and raspberry each separate directly from green at about 3.31:1 and 3.51:1. The ivory time tag needs its brown frame because ivory and green are only 2.19:1 apart; the frame reaches 13.73:1 against ivory and 6.27:1 against green. Keep blue and raspberry cards apart because they differ by only 1.06:1, and pair every selected location and event category with text.

A considered balance

Make room for
the right colors.

Use Reading Green with Bookbinding Brown for the directory and filters. Place venue details on Steel Room with Page Ivory text. Use ivory opening-time tags with brown text and frames. Use separate Raspberry Notice cards with ivory text for labeled location selection and event details.

Start with a generous background, introduce your primary color, then use the highlight sparingly. The ratios are a guide for large surfaces, not a fixed recipe.

Background · Primary · Highlight. Use text and accent colors where their roles call for them.

Text on background
6.27:1 #251A16 on #86A67D · AA normal text
Text on primary
1.90:1 #251A16 on #274D68 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (1.90:1). This example uses Page Ivory (#F3E6CC) from the same palette instead of #251A16 on #274D68, improving contrast to 7.24:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Text on highlight
13.73:1 #251A16 on #F3E6CC · AAA normal text
Text on accent
1.79:1 #251A16 on #7A2748 · Not suitable for text

The original text has low contrast (1.79:1). This example uses Page Ivory (#F3E6CC) from the same palette instead of #251A16 on #7A2748, improving contrast to 7.69:1. This meets WCAG AA for normal text.

Contrast is calculated for these specific pairs. Large text means at least 24 px regular or about 18.7 px bold. Check every pairing in your final design.

COLOR NOTE

Do not use Bookbinding Brown text on Steel Room or Raspberry Notice; the ratios are about 1.90:1 and 1.79:1. Use Page Ivory there at about 7.24:1 and 7.69:1. Frame ivory time labels with brown, and keep blue venue cards separate from raspberry notices.

Text/background contrast: 6.27:1. This is one measured pair, not a guarantee for the whole palette. Check every actual text/background pairing against WCAG AA. Prefer readable combinations from the original colors, keep visible keyboard focus, and never communicate state through color alone. If no original pairing meets the requirement, propose a separately labeled derived color with its original HEX, proposed HEX, purpose and measured contrast. Never overwrite the source palette.

This guide preserves the original HEX values. Review the output before using it.
