One Quiet Choice Before Night

Test in Color Lab

Five colors, endless possibilities. Select a color to copy its HEX.

A minimal night preference-planner palette pairing a very dark neutral field with pale green type, muted green choice cards, a pale duration panel, and light violet reminder details. Built for one editable screen-free pause.

The feeling

A quiet night planner with three simple choices, one steady duration, and an optional reminder

Explore this palette ↓

The mood

Imagine opening a small planner at night and choosing one screen-free pause: reading, looking outside, or sitting quietly. Night Charcoal holds the page, Soft Leaf makes the instructions easy to find, and Pause Green defines the three choice cards. Timer Paper keeps the chosen duration stable, while Reminder Violet marks the optional follow-up setting.

The interface stays limited to one choice, one duration, and one reminder decision. Wide spacing and a steady timer line make each preference easy to review and edit.

How to use it

Use Night Charcoal for the app shell and Soft Leaf for headings, instructions, navigation, and timer text on that dark surface. Fill the choice cards with Pause Green and the duration field with Timer Paper. Use Reminder Violet for the reminder row, its optional status chip, and one secondary illustration.

Label the options “Read,” “Look outside,” and “Sit quietly.” Let the user set a duration, display it as “8 minutes,” and keep the running timer in a fixed-width line such as “08:00 remaining.” Place an editable “Change choice” action beside the selection. Keep “Optional reminder” off until the user turns it on and confirms a time. Start with a 55/31/14 balance across the dark background, green cards, and pale duration panel.

What to watch

Soft Leaf on Night Charcoal measures about 13.28:1 and supports normal-size text. Soft Leaf fails on Pause Green at 2.48:1, Timer Paper at 1.10:1, and Reminder Violet at 1.84:1; each fails both normal- and large-text AA thresholds. Use Night Charcoal instead, measuring about 5.36:1 on green, 14.66:1 on the pale neutral, and 7.20:1 on violet.

Each card against Night Charcoal also clears the 3:1 non-text boundary: green at 5.36:1, pale neutral at 14.66:1, and violet at 7.20:1. Still pair the selected option with a check and written label, preserve a visible keyboard focus indicator, and state clearly when an optional reminder is off, scheduled, changed, or removed.

A considered balance

Make room for
the right colors.

Use Night Charcoal for the shell, Soft Leaf for text on the dark surface, Pause Green for the three option cards, Timer Paper for duration and countdown panels, and Reminder Violet for the optional reminder row. Set all text inside green, neutral, and violet components in Night Charcoal; add written states and visible focus indicators.

Start with a generous background, introduce your primary color, then use the highlight sparingly. The ratios are a guide for large surfaces, not a fixed recipe.

Text on primary
2.48:1 #D6E7D4 on #779879 · Not suitable for text

Text/background contrast: 13.28:1. This is one measured pair, not a guarantee for the whole palette. Check every actual text/background pairing against WCAG AA. Prefer readable combinations from the original colors, keep visible keyboard focus, and never communicate state through color alone. If no original pairing meets the requirement, propose a separately labeled derived color with its original HEX, proposed HEX, purpose and measured contrast. Never overwrite the source palette.

This guide preserves the original HEX values. Review the output before using it.
